 PROJECT DEVELOPMENTS

The Wentworth Brown Project has been awarded several grants and received “in kind” donations of services. The Wentworth
Brown estate has suffered from a lack of maintenance for over a decade, primarily affecting the exterior with the
most critical area being deterioration of the foundation and sills in the original c. 1790’s structures: small house and barn.

Initial grants from the NH Preservation Alliance and the National Trust provided funds for a preliminary architectural study
to assess the buildings’ physical needs and capabilities. Following the completed study, HHI was awarded a significant
challenge grant from the New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) (www.lchip.org) for
historic rehabilitation and, awarded an L5 Capacity Building tax credit grant from the New Hampshire Community Development
Financing Authority (CDFA) (www.nhcdfa.org) towards completing a feasibility study and redevelopment plan.
The project is also the recipient of both a community facilities and an economic impact initiative grant from the United
States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA) (rd.usda.gov) for the large barn structure.

The Project will be developed in Phases:

• Phase I: (ongoing) stabilization of the exterior; complete feasibility study / redevelopment plan; raise funds to match LCHIP challenge grant; engage businesses eligible for NH tax credits granted for the Project through CDFA.

Phase II and III: (future) upgrade heating, electrical and septic systems; interior refinish of first floor main house, small house, barn and connector, large barn conversion, and second floor interior all in accordance with approved reuse plan.
